Mellencamp always intended Pink Houses to be cynical, but naturally, the typical interpretation is one of blind patriotism oblivious to the lyrical content.

Herein, Alex & Matthew take the temperature of 2022 and employ a very simple reharmonization - switching the key center from major to minor. No more subtlety. God bless America.
